San Patricio Commissioners Approve Updated Flood Map
San Patricio County Commissioners voted to approve a new flood plan for the county, which includes areas around Aransas Pass. The previous map had not been updated since 1985, but the revisions will ensure that the maps are current.
“We had a community assessment visit from Texas Water Development Board after they told us there are revisions coming out,” said Shanna Owens, San Patricio County Floodplain Manager, “and most of those are going to be taking place in Aransas Pass behind the levy.”
The new changes went into effect until December 20, 2019. The community of Aransas Pass participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which requires adherence to certain floodplain regulations. The updates to the area flood maps are necessary so that community members can take advantage of federally subsidized flood insurance policies through the NFIP.
